Buying a Dell Laptop for Better Productivity
There are some boxes that you should be looking to tick if a new Dell laptop is on your New Year list. To be clear, all five (if any) of the things listed here on RM1,000 laptops are unlikely to be found. These are the features that you should look for when buying a Dell laptop in the year 2021.
Wi-Fi 6
Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax, has been around for quite some time. In 2021, we will be seeing a lot of budget-friendly Wi-Fi 6 routers on the market. Wi-Fi 6 will give our laptop a great boost in terms of speed and range. With Wi-Fi 6, no more dead spots in our house. Instead, we will want a Wi-Fi 6 capable laptop to get full speed and range provided by Wi-Fi. There are tons of laptops out there that are still stuck on Wi-Fi 5, particularly at the cheaper end of the market. Purchasing Wi-Fi 6 would make the laptop future-proof for years to come, such as Dell Latitude 3410, Dell Latitude 5410, and Dell XPS 13.
A non-Intel processor
For Windows-based laptops, AMD has totally stolen the limelight from Intel. Meanwhile, on Dell, We unveiled the first ‘AMD Advantage’ device to the world on stage at CES 2020: the Dell G5 15 SE. Today, this Dell-AMD partnership is coming to life. Combining these core components of AMD RyzenTM processors, AMD RadeonTM graphics, and AMD technologies and applications, Dell is proud to share the most robust all-AMD gaming solution ever.
Well-placed webcams
Due to Coronavirus, many workforces worldwide have started working from home. Schools and university students have also switched to remote classes. Working or learning remotely has now become the new normal. Hence, the webcam position is now one of the important features to consider when buying a laptop. Avoid webcam placed at the keyboard level at all costs. We do not want a laptop where the webcam is badly placed that a guided tour of your nostrils. Dell Latitude 3410, Dell Latitude 5410, and Dell XPS 15 have a webcam that is well placed.
A decent keyboard
It always amazes us how little attention a keyboard gets from certain laptop reviewers. There are many people who use a laptop as a desktop that is most of the time plugged into an external keyboard and screen, but there will be times when the built-in keyboard is still required. A rattly and unresponsive keyboard is always a pain. On keyboards, poor stuff to look out for: half-size Enter keys or spacebars, and odd layouts of the keyboard. We will be pushed up the wall by all of these. It is possible to consider Dell Vostro 14 and Dell Precision 3550.
USB-C charging
Look for laptops that allow USB-C/Thunderbolt ports to charge. For many factors, they are generally superior to generic charging ports. Unlike the old power bricks of the past, the chargers that come with such laptops appear to be lightweight, making the laptop easier to bring around. If something goes wrong with the charging cable, they are relatively inexpensive and easy to repair compared to the traditional charging cable. Finally, with USB-C charging, we will get a wider variety of docking options, which will make it cheaper and easier to operate from homes, such as Dell Latitude 3410, Dell Latitude 5410, and Dell Latitude 7410.
