Endpoint

What is Endpoint ?

In the context of information technology and network security, an endpoint is any physical device that connects to and communicates over a network. These devices represent the “end points” of communication between users and the central systems, servers, or cloud environments within an organization’s IT infrastructure.

Examples of Endpoints Include:

  • Desktop and laptop computers
  • Smartphones and tablets
  • Servers and workstations
  • Printers, scanners, and multifunction devices
  • IoT devices (e.g., smart sensors, IP cameras)

Endpoints play a crucial role in business operations, as they serve as the interface through which users access corporate systems, applications, and data. However, they also represent potential entry points for security threats, making them a primary focus in cybersecurity solutions such as:

  • Antivirus and antimalware solutions
  • Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM)
  • Zero Trust Security Models
